Collecting and Using Your Personal Data
Types of Data Collected
Personal Data
Floatore does not require You to create an account in order to use the app.
Depending on the feature You choose to use, Floatore may process the following categories of Personal Data or user-provided content:
- Selected text that You explicitly act on
- Contact information You send to Us when You email support
- Purchase entitlement status related to Pro features
Usage Data
Limited Usage Data may be generated automatically when using the Service, especially if diagnostics logging or related platform logging features are involved.
If diagnostics logging is enabled, Floatore may record limited diagnostic information on Your device, such as:
- hotkey-to-panel timing
- action timing
- selection success rate
- low-cardinality error codes
According to the current app behavior and settings, selected text and API keys are not intentionally logged as diagnostics data.
At this time, such diagnostics are intended to remain local to Your device unless You choose to share them with Us or with Apple through platform-level reporting or support workflows.
Use of Your Personal Data
The Company may use information for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain the Service, including performing the action You request.
- To provide app features, such as translation, search, definitions, in-app web actions, or configured integrations.
- To store local preferences, including settings required for the app to work as configured on Your device.
- To manage purchases and entitlements, including checking whether Pro features are unlocked through Apple's StoreKit and App Store systems.
- To improve reliability, if You enable diagnostics logging.
- To respond to You, if You contact Us for support or privacy questions.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, safety, and security of the Service and its users.
How Floatore Uses Selected Text
Floatore reads selected text only when necessary to perform a user-initiated action, such as opening the panel, translating text, searching, defining a term, or passing input to a selected feature or destination.
Floatore prefers to read selected text through macOS accessibility APIs. In some cases, if direct selection reading does not succeed, Floatore may use a temporary system pasteboard fallback in order to complete the action You initiated. When that happens, Floatore attempts to restore prior pasteboard contents where feasible, but some system integrations or clipboard manager apps may still observe temporary pasteboard changes or related metadata updates.
The default translation experience uses macOS system translation. If You enable or configure optional third-party translation providers, web-based translation services, browser actions, in-app web actions, macOS Shortcuts, or another app integration such as Bob, the selected text may be sent to the destination required to complete that action.
Permissions
Floatore may request the following macOS permissions:
- Accessibility: used to read selected text in other apps on demand and position the panel.
- Input Monitoring (optional): used to detect global mouse clicks so the panel can dismiss when You click outside it.
Input Monitoring is not used to record what You type.
Local Storage and Keychain
Floatore stores settings locally on Your device.
When supported features require sensitive credentials, such as API keys or secrets for optional integrations, Floatore may store them in the macOS Keychain rather than plain local storage.
Sharing of Your Personal Data
We do not sell Your Personal Data.
We may share limited information in the following situations:
- With platform providers: when needed to complete app functionality provided by Apple, such as StoreKit purchases or macOS system services.
- With third-party destinations chosen by You: when You intentionally use features that open a browser, load an in-app web page, call a configured translation provider, send content to a macOS Shortcut, or pass text to another app integration or selected destination.
- For legal reasons: if required to do so by law or valid legal process.
- To protect rights and safety: where necessary to protect the rights, property, safety, or security of the Company, the Service, or others.
Retention of Your Personal Data
The Company will retain Personal Data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
In practice:
- local settings remain on Your device until You remove the app or clear them
- supported Keychain items remain until they are deleted, replaced, or removed
- purchase and entitlement information may be refreshed from Apple as needed
- optional diagnostics logs are primarily stored locally on Your device unless You choose to share them through support or platform reporting channels
- support emails or correspondence may be retained as needed to respond to requests, maintain records, or comply with legal obligations
Transfer of Your Personal Data
Because Floatore is primarily an on-device application, most processing happens on Your device.
However, information may be transmitted to third-party services when You intentionally use a feature that depends on them, including Apple platform services, websites You open, third-party translation providers You configure, macOS Shortcuts, or other destinations and app integrations You choose to use.
Delete Your Personal Data
Because much of Floatore's data is stored locally, You can often remove it by:
- deleting the app
- resetting or removing local settings
- deleting supported Keychain entries
You may also contact Us if You have a privacy-related request.
Disclosure of Your Personal Data
Business Transactions
If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.
Law Enforcement
Under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
Other Legal Requirements
The Company may disclose information in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:
- comply with a legal obligation
- protect and defend the rights or property of the Company
- prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service
- protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public
- protect against legal liability
Security of Your Personal Data
We take reasonable steps to reduce unnecessary data collection and to use platform security features where appropriate, including local storage controls and macOS Keychain storage for supported secrets.
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 16, and We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children through Floatore.
Links to Other Websites
Our Service may contain links to other websites or services that are not operated by Us. If You click on a third-party link or choose an action that opens a third-party destination, You will be directed to that service.
We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of third-party websites or services.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update Our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
